The People's Republic of Stroud

A very short history

Article text
The day after the UK voted to leave the EU, I was sitting outside my Stroud gallery sipping my coffee and pondering the future of the land I now called home. I was bought quickly to my senses by a couple of middle aged men who felt it appropriate to hurl expletive ridden abuse in the direction of the refugee charity shop located next to me. I was shocked, as I had never heard anything like this in my 2 years here. Stroud has a well earned reputation of being a place of tolerance and progressive thought and this was well out of place.

Being an advocate of non-violence, I returned inside to my laptop and created a poster. The People's Republic of Stroud was formed and the strapline 'Everyone Welcome' declared. A couple of clicks later it was on Facebook and a positive reception ensued.
